The Port of Sozopol exists since antiquity and was named after the many different names of the town, the first being Appolonia. In support of this are the numerous archeological findings from the aquatory of the town including stone stocks, anchors, etc. Sozopol used to be an important port in Roman times as well and centuries later - in medieval times. As of April 2010 the Port of Sozopol has become the firs registered state fishing port in Bulgaria. Till that moment it was part of the list of ports for public transport with national importance and with a status of a trading port. This change allows the Port of Sozopol to be use as a harbor of fishing boats that unship fresh fish. According to the latest statistical data Sozopol is the leader in Bulgarian in terms of quantities of draught. From a total draught of 3500 tons of fish, 2900 tons are caught in the aquatory of Sozopol, which 82.8% from the whole Black Sea draught in the country. The Port of Sozopol is also the place, where is located the largest fleet of fishing boats. It is located in the north-west part of the Stolets peninsula, where is the Old Sozopol. Its total area is 4725 sq.m. The port has two places for ships with a maximum depth of 4.5 meters and a total length of 170 meters. The outdoor storage area has a size of 4400 sq.m.
