Cape Kolokita is the largest and northernmost cape of the large Budjaka peninsula. Its name comes from the Greek word κολοκύθα, which means "pumpkin". It is located 2 km from Sozopol and used to be a protected natural area but now is completely built-up with holiday villages and hotels. Yet, cape Kolokita and the area nearby remains one of the preferred fishing in Sozopol. To the north of the cape is the large Korenyata Bay. It starts from the easternmost parts of the new town of Sozopol and reaches the Budjaka peninsula. It include the Harmani beach, the small Budjaka beach and the famous Paradise cove. Between cape Kolokita and the neighboring to the south cape Saint Stefan is located the rocky complex Germankata. It is one of the most sought after places in Sozopol for extreme jumps in the sea (from 5 to 20 meters in depth) from the vertical rocks. It is called like that because of the tragic death of the German woman Hell Sroeder in 1959. A memorial plaque is placed on the rock. The third cape of Budjaka - Hristos, faces entirely to the south and overlooks the Kavatsite Bay and cape Agalina. It is an interesting fact the cape Kolokita is part of the Thracian necropolis of Appolonia Pontica (ancient Sozopol). On the cape are discovered ancient Thracian mounds dating back to the 5th and 3rd century BC. For the first time they have been examined archaeologically by the famous brothers Shkorpil in the 19th century and later by the French consul in Burgas. At that time were discovered two of the mounds and plenty of painted ceramic pieces were sent to the Louvre in Paris. Necropolises of the ancient Appolonia Pontica are discovered in the southern end of the Harmani beach (Kalfata locality) close to cape Kolokita and in the Solinariya area at Kavatsite. From the Appolonia necropolis are discovered a total of 276 burials during rescue excavations in 2005 as well as remnants from an ancient pipeline.
